What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

food and hunger
I agree with Ariana and stella, so many people go hungry each day because we throw away so much of our food. We don't intend on wasting so much but it ultimately ends up in the trash, wasting both money and food. Actually one third of food produced for human consumption ends up lost or wasted.

If we can buy only as much as we know we can eat, will can save a lot of food and money that can go to helping others who are less fortunate.
Most people in the world do not understand what it is like to be hungry every night. Some people just want food on their plates and enough to keep them going. In the world I live in and the world most people live in, they do not experience this and may not think this is a big deal. However, one in every eight people go hungry every night, even though we have enough food to feed 7 billion people. So why are some people still going hungry?
There are many reason why people go hungry every night. One reason is that when people are poor and can not afford food to buy, they lack the energy to work for food. This can trap people into being weak and hungry for their entire life. Other people are just going hungry because the place they live in is not suitable for growing crops. Many places are in droughts which deprive them of water to drink, so it would be even harder to provide them with water to grow crops. This makes it extremely hard to keep a reliable source of food for people. Without any local places growing food, it is much harder to get food easily. However, it is not just people in poor countries that are going hungry, people in wealthier countries are also going hungry. This is not because the area they live in is not suitable for food, but because they just do not have the money to get food on the table. This is due to unemployment, and the United States has had this topic come up a lot and what to do about it.
There are many things you could do to help food shortages and people that are going hungry. For one, you could donate to a charity that helps poor countries get food. But one thing that we could all do, that does not require paying any sort of fee is to not waste food. One third of all food produced is not consumed. This amount of food is huge and could surely be used somewhere else than in the garbage. Not only does this uneaten food go to waste, but it also produces a lot of greenhouse gases to make the food. Producing all this food adds up to about 3.3 billion tons of greenhouse gases that are released into the atmosphere. This problem may seem like it will go unresolved for a very long time, but if everyone knows what they could do to help improve world hunger, it may not be as big of a topic later on.

Did you know that about 795 million people in the world don’t have enough food to live a healthy life? That is one in every 9 people. We may not think about how serious this problem is because many of us always have food on our plates and don’t have to worry about where our next meal will come from. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people in our world who do not have sufficient amounts of food. World hunger is a much bigger problem than we may think and we need to help that cause.
World hunger is a major problem today. People who live in poor places do not have enough money to afford sustainable food for them and their families and just don’t have the money to make it happen. Some people live in areas where the conditions are not good for sustaining food. For example, they might not have water and cannot grow crops that they need for food. But, luckily it is a problem that can definitely be solved. There is enough food in our world to feed everyone on the planet without any scientific breakthroughs. We can help solve this problem by food donations, sustainable food, acc ess to education, and more. We all need to step up and help. Approximately 21,000 people die from hunger each day. If we have enough food for everyone, why are thousands of people still dying each day? We need to start educating people about world hunger and start volunteering to help this problem. We can volunteer by working at local food banks and donating food and things of that nature. If everyone just helps a little then we together can make a huge difference and help save lives. Put yourself in someone who doesn’t have enough food’s shoes. Imagine not knowing where or when your next meal would come from. Wouldn’t it mean the world to you if someone who had plenty of food helped you and donated food or money? That would mean the world to someone and you can make it happen.
World hunger is a much larger problem than many of us may think because we are so fortunate to always have enough food to eat. But, for those who are not as fortunate, they need help. And anyone, no matter who you are, can help and make a difference. You can just start with little things like donating to a food bank every once and awhile. It is sad to think that we have enough food on our planet for everyone but people are still starving. It is time to change that and make a difference. You can find this information at
