Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Leftovers

I feel like too many people throw away their perfectly fresh leftovers. You could use those leftover foods as lunches or dinners the next day, saving food, money, and reducing your waste production.

I agree with you. Food is still good to use the next day or even a day after that. We could also throw it to our animals, there are a lot of ways.

yes indeed, or at least feed it to worms for compost rather than tossing it in the landfill waste

I think you are right about not throwing away leftovers. I understand that food might be hard to keep because of things like lack of fridge/freezer space, or if the food is expired, or if you just don't like the food enough to keep as leftovers. If we throw away less food, it will mean we will need to buy less food. Sometimes leftovers aren't as good as fresh food, but I think it would be better to waste less and reuse more food.
