What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Food and Hunger
Before doing the carbon footprint challenge, I didn’t think that my eating habits and diet contributed to climate change as much as it did. I’m extremely lucky to be able to have plenty of food when some people in the world are starving. We know that we have enough food on the planet to feed everybody, yet 925 million people don’t have enough to eat. Many of us take for granted everything we have, and don’t realize that the food we waste makes a huge difference. Eating meat is a big problem and when I learned this I was so surprised! Meat has always been in my diet, so to learn that it contributes to the heating of our planet was definitely an eye-opener. Something we can do besides eating less meat is selling less meat. If we raise less livestock, we won't need as much feed for the animals, space to raise them, etc. Also, if we don't sell as much meat, the amount of consumers buying the product will decrease. This is just one way we can help; other ways include donating food to local food banks, eating less meat, composting your food scraps instead of throwing them into the landfill, and trying not to waste food by eating leftovers, or sharing the food to get rid of the amount you throw away. Every little thing counts and we have to start small then slowly make bigger changes to fight climate change.
