What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Saving Food
When I go to the store, it's easy to get caught up in all the good foods and buy way too much. Usually, I end up forgetting about the food and it gets thrown out. I thought that my food waste didn't make a difference, but every little bit adds up. I was shocked to discover that about 1/3 of the world's food produced every year is wasted. One way to help reduce waste is to order less appetizers at restaurants so I can finish your main course. If I can't finish, pack it for later. If I have a lot of a certain dish, I will give it to a homeless person that I see on the way home who desperately needs food. Also, I try to buy more fresh produce that can be composted.
