What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

It's true that we should save our food, but to eliminate some of these small problems you could possibly plan out your meals.  This will utilize the use of time, effort, and energy.  By planning out your meals, you can save food waste by either creating the right serving amount for that meal or meals.  Besides planning out your meal you could use plastic containers instead of ziplock bags as they can have weak points in the design.

Keeping leftovers would also be another good way of preventing waste and will minimize your carbon footprint. There are over 42 million Americans living in food-insecure households, collectively, we manage to throw out an estimated 80 billion pounds of food every year. This statistic itself is enough to prove that keeping leftover food is essential to keeping our planet happy and healthy.
