I have learned that my household carbon foot print, specifically food intake, is more than the average of 77 countries according to Stanford's carbon foot print data. This surprises me because I always thought the amount I ate was perfectly fine because I never was overeating. But now seeing the averages of other families food carbon foot print has me wondering if I'm eating to much. Part of the problem is societal, our country's advertisements and beliefs exploit eating. The media outlets persuade people to eat their food or products because it's pleasurable not because you need the actual iron, protein, or electrolytes. Another example of our society encouraging overeating is with sports. In order to be a successful athlete one needs to train and eat abnormal amounts of food to sustain the fat burning in their bodies. But it's the actual process that goes into becoming an athlete, we created sports to make an excuse that the athlete's aren't overeating. I'm not saying sports are harmful, but simply that the world has created super athlete's and body builder with unnece ssary amounts of eating. Now, it is very important that people are fit, but becoming or staying lean does not require or even need abnormal amounts of eating to keep or gain muscle. People can stay perfectly fit and not overeat our food sources to stay healthy. So, eating the right amount of protein and sugars create stable carbon emissions.
