In schools a lot of food is wasted, because students do not have time to finish eating. This could be changed if more students brought their lunch, because it would enable students to save leftovers and minimize waste. Another option would be to give students more time to finish their food. If we minimize our food waste now then we can minimize global hunger.

Hi Sam_O, I know exactly what you mean! Today I was in the school canteen and I had 20 minutes (there was such a long queue) to eat my pasta dish and my dessert because I had to go to class. I was also a bit stressed and so I ate it very quickly.
I was so sated that I did not finish my food and now I feel a little guilty.
Next time I'll follow your advice and I'll bring my lunch so I can minimize waste.

Hey Sam_O, I agree that we don't have enough time. In our school line is very long and students usually cut in front of the line all the time. But now our professors started sulervise that. Also our portions are way to big. And most of the students don't ask for smaller portions or if someone doesn't eat something they don't ask the staff not to give them that. If we did that our schools could donate the leftover food from lunches.

Hi Sam_O, I agree with you. I think we should have more time to eat lunch. We could bring our own lunch boxes to save leftovers in and they could minimize our portions of food.

It does seem like more food is wasted at school than at home. At my school, I think more people waste food because they know there isn't anybody to tell them not to. Our lunch break is long enough so most people have more than enough time to finish eating. I think the problem here is just people don't really care about wasting food at school, and they throw away whatever they don't feel like eating.

...and I guess your school doesn't have a compost bin in the cafeteria?  it would be good if it did!

Hi Sam, I know what you are dealing with. There should been enough time for everyone to eat and finish their food. There is a lot of food waste going on around the world. Students bringing their own lunch would be a great idea for the future. So they can save their food for later which will decrease the waste.

Dear Sam, I completely agree that food waste and global hunger is a major issue. Personally, I believe to solve this, schools should begin giving students more time to finish eating their food. Another issue that comes with individuals bringing their own lunches, is that many students eat from plastic packages and these are often not recycled and can contribute to waste.
