What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Food and Hunger
While going through my carbon footprint results, I noticed that dietary choices have a big impact on the numbers that you will get. Also in the U.S. we eat double the amount of most other countries. If I could use what I learned and translate it into an effective societal policy on food I would make it that we all eat less calories a day. I would also have there be less meals a day so that people who are starving could also have a meal that was taken out of someone else's day to eat.
I agree that dietary choices lower a carbon footprint result, because its less calories consumed. However, to make eating less calories a societal policy is a lot more complicated itself for just lowering carbon footprints. I also agree with the people who are starving could benefit from it.
Ya see, the problem with your "fewer meals a day" policy is that people are way too lazy to really follow through with that. I mean, the United States failed to pass the Metric Conversion Act in 1975 because people were just too indolent to try to learn the metric system, and I fear that a policy such as the one you propose here will have the same response. I know that I, personally, am not willing to give up a meal a day. I like, the rest of the world, want to eat. I think that a better proposition would be to have willing and kindhearted people donate some food to a middleman who would then send that food to people who need it. (If you didn't realize, I was describing a charity, which is already a thing).
