Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Ending World Hunger

Hunger is one of the most tragic recurring issues and causes of death. 795 million people do not have enough to eat and of those starving people, 98% live in developing countries. Stories are heard every day about the troubles of hunger, especially in places of poverty such as Uganda and Bangladesh. Every ten seconds a child starves to death. We live in a world where we produce more than enough food for everyone to eat. So, why should so many struggle with finding enough food to maintain a healthy life? There are plenty of solutions to this problem and it all starts with one person deciding enough is enough. For example, food donations, access to a better education (which would lead to a better income), and birth control education would eventually have a huge effect in ending world hunger.
