What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Food and Hunger in the World
A lot of us are very blessed to be able to eat at least three meals a day and eat snacks whenever we feel like it. What we don't know is, there are hundreds and thousands of people around the world who are not as fortunate as us. Many people live their life through hunger, not knowing when their next meal will be, whist some people are wasting food and not actually realizing how fortunate they are. Hunger is a very major issue in our world because many people die from starvation, and the problem is, they cannot do anything about it. When people are not able to feed themselves, that means they are not able to feed their families either, causing a bigger problem. However, starvation is not the only problem. Large portions of food is being wasted every single day, and the problem with this, is the fact that we are not being appreciative of the food given to us. Throwing out food also means that more trash is generated, meaning that everything is connected and everything matters.
How can we get rid of this problem? There is no definite answer to this question. There is noth ing we can specifically do that can prevent hunger except doing what we think can benefit the earth. Eat wisely. If you are not that hungry but want to have a little snack, make sure you eat something that you will be able to finish. We can do many things to plan ahead and make sure that nothing is being wasted. If you don't like the taste of something, take note of it and make sure you never order/purchase it again. This does not mean you throw it away, you need to finish it or at least try your best to not waste the food.
I completely agree with you on this. An interesting study I found from
http://www.statisticbrain.com/world-hunger-statistics/
was that about 7,665,000 of people die each year of starvation, and up to 26% of our world is considered to be starving. These statistics were heartbreaking to see, and I was shocked at how large these numbers were. Many people are spoiled with the best food, and do not even realize it or take it for granted. Coming from a very fortunate family all my life, I definitely have realized how much food I've thrown away and wasted without even realizing it. It deeply saddens me as well to know that so many people all over the world are starving and barely staying alive with what little food they have, while others are living luxuriously and aren't grateful for everything they have. What makes me even more sad it that a lot of the people in our world are not doing much to even help the less fortunate, they are only hoping that someone else will take the step. Everyone in this world should pitch in and help though, because while it may not seem to matter at first, small things can make a big difference. Simply things such as what you said, throwing away food that you don't like, planning ahead when trying different foods, and even just eating wisely can truly make all the difference.
