Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Many people, including me, are lucky enough to have plenty of food to eat, and a lot of times, that food is wasted by being thrown away when only half eaten or not eaten at all. We can do more to conserve our food, since around  10 percent of the people in the world aren't getting enough. Each individual American wastes about 20 pounds of food per month, and if it's possible to cut even half of that, the problem of world hunger would shrink a huge amount.

I agree that world hunger is a big problem and that we need to do something to help. I also know that it is terrible how much food we waste and that it could be used by someone else who really needs it. There are a few things that I have researched that we can do to reduce the waste of food and benefit the people that need it more. One thing we can do is produce sustainable food. This is food that people can make themselves and not run out. Our school does this with its garden area and I think its great that we have the resources to do it. I think we should work on getting programs like the one at our school to third world countries so they can produce food for everyone in their country. Another indirect thing we can do is empower women. Inequality relates to hunger. If we empower women and make them able to obtain food they can guide their family and make financial situations better.  For more ways to help reduce world hunger visit this link I did my research on :https://borgenproject.org/10-ways-stop-world-hunger/

I concur as well Jack. I have noticed people will throw away food because it looks "bad" and shouldn't be eaten. This is the mentality that the world is facing against itself. We need to buckle down and understand ourselves to consider how much food we should be eating and how much we should be growing.

i agree that the world should watch on what they eat because there are many places in the world that do not have enough food to eat because the are poor. we need to watch out because soon there will be less and less food for all of us if we don't take care of our food.
