Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Food is very important to have in your life. You always need carbs in your body system to be healthy and strong. Like for some people, they nearly don't get the food we eat. People don't have enough money to go to stores and buy food. We eat a lot of meat which contributes climate change. We can find a way stop climate change contributing in our world.

I agree with you Francisco as I believe if we can limit our food intake and distribute it across the world the world will be a lot better place not just for the environment but for the people of third world countries. For example on the site http://www.wri.org/our-work/topics/food they say that the world will hold nearly 9.6 billion people by the year 2050, this means there will be many more mouths to feed resulting in more CO2 worldwide. so if we can limit our intake and spread the resource more generously it will result in a better more healthy world to live in.

These are both valid points. I think that in order to help everyone we need to be more mindful of what we buy because if we are not that hungry then we should not be buying a lunch we are not going to finish or say we ate all of our sandwich but we are full and still have an apple left. We could have someone put out a box that has food we have not eaten but are to full to eat. We did this at my old school and after we donated to a ministry that brought the food to shelters and things like that.

I agree with you. I would also like to point out the amount of food that restaurants throw out. I think there should be some system to take the food waste and donate it to other people after cleaning it in some way. Americans in general throw out so much trash per year. We also throw away too many plastic water bottles, rather than using reusable ones. Climate change will keep occurring if we don't reduce the amount of trash we throw away.

I agree with you Francisco, everyone in a city needs a certain amount of food and to fulfill these peoples needs it won't be easy. Some things that the people can do is to use all of their resources/options wisely. Not wasting food is very important and will allow for people to fulfill their food needs.

i agree with francisco we all need a certain amount of food to live off of but we also need to lean how not to waste the food we have and learn how to use all of the resources that we have wisely especially our water
