Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Food Waste on the Earth

In industrialized areas most of the food is wasted, an amount close to 680 billion american dollars in food waste, and 310 billion in countries that are not completely industrialized. A huge amount of waste comes from the excess money Industrial countries get allowing for them to buy more than necessary which goes to waste. one fourth of the food wasted went to the people starving in other countries,it could feed around 870 million people. This is found by the most recent findings by the food and agriculture association of the UN

I completely agree that food is unnecessarily wasted and that we could all benefit by making the most of the food we have. I was unaware that nearly 1,000,000 people could be fed by the excess waste, a fact that really puts everything into proportion.
