What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Food and Hunger
Comparing my first year of doing the footprint calculator to now, I realized how much a changed diet can effect carbon emission. At first, I ate a lot of meat in which resulted my food footprint to be extremely high; now, I eat more organic vegan meals and my footprint has decreased a lot! Composting always plays in important role in decreasing carbon footprints. Instead of throwing old food away, many of those old scraps can be reused to put in soil. If I were to make my own policy, it would state that people should shop from local markets and buy organic foods. I would also put into place that everyone must compost old food scraps! This could help alleviate world hunger if local markets become more abundant in inner cities and other third world countries where hunger is a problem. People can resort to their local neighbor hoods for healthy foods instead of having to buy unhealthy processed foods.
I agree with you; I think composting our food is very beneficial to the environment. I agree with what you said about shopping from local markets and buying organic foods. I also think with buying from big grocery stores, there tends to be a lot of unnecessary packaging. The same goes with ordering out or if you eat out and take food home. I would propose that with eating out, it would help the environment if people were to bring their own reusable containers to put their food in.
