What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Watching what you eat can decrease your carbon footprint!
When I calculated my footprint, food is where the most of my emissions came from. My family usually eats meat five out of seven days of the week. I think it is important for us to remember that there are other options that are just as delicious. I know it is very hard to completely commit to a meat free diet because meat is a good and delicious source of protein. When you eat meat it is more environmentally safe to buy organic meat because inorganic meat has added hormones that aren't good for the environment or the animals producing the meat. It is important to remember our actions and diets can affect the world around us.
This is very interesting because although I eat meat most days of the week as well I did not find that food was the largest source of emissions for my footprint, but it makes sense how this would end up producing a lot more emissions than other areas. I have had cows before and I know from personal experience why meat products produce large emissions, to get the food alone can cause large emissions. Although the food is grown on farms they must cut the food and do all necessary preparations before shipping it; this requires vehicles and other contraptions. Then shipping also requires more vehicles which produce emissions, which you must drive to go get from the store. The meat itself once butchered takes more vehicles and machinery, and once again going to buy the meat from the store produces even more. Over all the entire production of meat produces a lot of emissions, lowering the amount of meat you eat can help to stop these large emissions and the threat global warming poses.
