What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Meat production and the industries in the US has been horrific due to the Greenhouse Gas Emissions and waste that is released annually. The process of raising the animals to be slaughtered then packaged is a vigorous and outrageous process on for the animals, the human body, and the environment. Water contamination is a huge issue with animal waste and different chemicals that are released along with electricity to run the system and operation of slaughtering animals. Eating less or no meat can decrease the production the carbon emissions and slow the rate of meat production. This has proven to lower your carbon footprint, as well as having many health benefits from eating meat replacements.

Hi Adeleen. This article was very interesting to me. I have always eaten meat, but seeing the repercussions of the slaughterhouses on the environment has me rethinking my diet. I had no idea about the amount of pollutants that were released into the local waterways near the slaughterhouses. As for a solution to this problem, it seems like we need some regulations for the slaughterhouses that force the owners to find alternative methods to safely discard the waste produced.
