What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

How you can help.
I believe there are many things we can do to reduce the amount of carbon we are releasing because of food and food production. A few of these things are limiting our meat consumption, eating more locally grown, and in season foods. These are all pretty small changes we can make in our diets that could communally make a big difference.
Limiting our meat consumption is a great way to help prevent and decrease the impact of global warming and climate change. By eating less meat we are eliminating the pollution caused by producing the meat, making the packaging, and putting it all together. By doing this one small thing you will have done a lot for the environment and your health in one move.
Another thing we can do to reduce the pollution caused by the food industry is to eat more locally grown foods. Eliminating the need to bring it from hundreds of miles not only saves our money and time but also helps control climate change by removing our need to produce CO2 to bring it to where it is convenient for us. We can also make the change to eat foods that are in season. T his eradicates the need to create, run, and sustain greenhouses. These greenhouses produce a lot of carbon dioxide because of the long hours that they have to burn fuel to keep the inside temperature stable.
Another thing that is being majorly affected by climate change is the growing season and the conditions in which our plants are trying to grow. For example as stated on the climate hot maps website “However, global warming may make the Napa Valley less suitable for premium wine production…” For more information follow the link. http://www.climatehotmap.org/global-war … a-usa.html
Making these little changes in our daily lives can greatly impact the life of someone else and help create a better future for us.
I agree with all these points. I think the most difficult one to accomplish is eating locally grown foods. Some people either don't know how to eat local foods or would rather eat foods from different parts. One thing I searched after reading this is the meat production business. This business produces many toxins which are polluting our world. I think there should be a safer form of making meat that produces less CO2 as well. The less the meat travels from fields to us the less CO2 produced. The big meat business' are also polluting our waterways which ultimately could lead to more CO2 production to try and fix this. The meat business is in fact extremely harmful for the environment and if it continues like this with no change it will be dangerous.

I agree with the above points. Eating less meat can reduce pollution and it can help save water. According to http://www.chooseveg.com/environment, raising animals for food uses 30% of the Earth's land mass. In addition the making of one hamburger requires the use of 660 gallons of water, and we can conserve water by eating a more plant-based diet.
Wow I can not believe such a small change can make a huge difference. But if we all contribute and try to d these small things we can make a difference in the world.
I will highly consider the points made above and try to eat less meat. According to https://www.theguardian.com/environment … al-warming , eating less meat will reduce global warming, reduce global health care by $1 billion a year by mid-century, and will reduce fresh water used to feed livestock.
I do agree that changing our diet to a plant based impacts the environment in a good way. But it can be hard for people to switch to a plant based diet if they were raised eating meat.
