What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!
Food & Hunger >
Stop Wasting Food
With the world’s population projected to reach 9.6 billion by 2050, we will soon ask the question. "How do we produce enough food for that many people" The answer is to not produce more food and deforestation, it's to stop wasting the amount we already have.
"The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) estimates that, each year, around 1.3 billion tons (1/3 of all food produced for human consumption in the world) is lost or wasted. "
Looking at these numbers is just so saddening, because I feel like we can solve world hunger if we didn't waste the food.
