What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!
Food & Hunger >
No more MEAT!!!
I think everyone in the entire world should go meatless. Why we should go meatless? 91% of all destroyed land in the Amazon is used by the livestock industry. 200 million acres of forests have been destroyed since 1978. Also it takes 2400 gallons of water and 12 pounds of grain to produce 1 pound of beef patty. 70% of the US arable land is used just to grow food for livestock!! Isn't that crazy! We need to reduce our greenhouse emission so we should cut meat out of our lives.
I agree with you that people should go meatless. It's really damaging to our environment to eat meat and would be better if we just stopped eating meat altogether. It may take a while for people to transition to going vegetarian or vegan, but it's worth it in the end. Although, some peoples diets rely heavily on meat, so they may not be able to go vegetarian or vegan. If it's possible for someone to go vegetarian or vegan, they should definitely do it.
