Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Ending World Hunger.

Darbyyy

The United Nations new prediction to end world hunger is around $30 billion dollars a year. Our military and defense budget was $601 billion in 2015, and is only getting larger as our capitalistic world rapidly raises the prices of just about everything. Our militaries budget could end world hunger for 20 years straight, with a billion dollars to spare. And this is only the US, The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute states that China's budget is around 215 billion, and Russia's is 69 billion. Our worlds total spending is 1,686, that can end world hunger 56 times. If we could come together as the human race to end our hunger epidemic, each of our major militaries would only have to give 1 billion towards the cause to fight the entire world for a whole year. Not to mention we could install renewable food sources, and allow people to completely depend on themselves. We need change if we hope to keep up with our booming human population. And our wealthy governments can easily do this. It is time for a change, it is time to value lives over weapons and wars.
