Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

I learned that an Icelandic diet is not so good for the environment, however, I don't think that many people that I know of are willing to go vegan, even if it means there will be less of carbon. However I think we can all make a change by just stop eating fast food and try to cook less then more, and if we have to throw out food, at least put it in the food bin or recycle it so it becomes mud.

I agree. Fast food meals are unhealthy and should be minimized from a person's unhealthy dinner to just a place to stop on a long drive somewhere. The problem, especially in the U.S., is that there are way too many fast food restaurants everywhere. There are over 14,000 McDonalds locations in the U.S alone, and that is only one of the many fast food franchises we have here. People need to stop eating these greasy foods and start thinking about their health and their environment.

P.S. What does an Icelandic diet consist of?
