What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Food Waste
Food waste is a big problem in society. Roughly one third of the food produced in the world for human consumption every year — approximately 1.3 billion tons — gets lost or wasted. This is an example of how much food in the world is wasted every year. This is obviously a huge problem. I feel like there should be more ways to to conserve food and more people should use those ways.
I agree that we should reduce the amount of food waste. It is upsetting that those who are more fortunate than others simply throw away valuable food that people in third world countries could be receiving. Hypothetically speaking, what would happen if it got to a point where there was no more room on the earth to compost food waste? This is why we must implement these ideas right away.
I agree the amount of food wasted with the amount of starvation and hunger in the world is sad. There should be more plans implanted to conserve and reduce the amount of waste with food.
I agree that the amount of food wasted is very tragic. Especially, due to all the people who starve every day. Starvation and hunger might not exactly happen in the Bay area, but children and adults throughout the world suffer this extreme problem. I believe we take advantage of the food that we have and since we think we are at an advantage because we are able to get food whenever that we just waste and take for granted the food we do have and are able to get. This is why as a community we should watch how much food we waste and if we have the chance give food to others who are dealing with starvation.
I absolutely agree food waste is terrible. Plus, there are all those people in the world who are starving every day. Starvation is terrible and totally unnecessary considering how much food we produce a day. Not wasting food is extremely important when it comes to reducing the amount of food that is being wasted and it's a way to makes sure that we are doing our part in helping the environment and all the starving people.
There are people starving every day in foreign 3rd world countries and in America we are thousands of pounds off food every year. My family always tries to buy food grown locally and free range. If people didn't need there food transported across the seas we could give food to those in need.
