Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Food Moderation

lolateeters

Moderating the amount of food that we buy is crucial for the environment and health for our planets. A large percentage of our food is wasted every year which is affecting the world greatly. If we learn to buy only the amount of food that we need, we can start conserving important recourses like energy and water. Also, buying organic products and eating food that is unprocessed, is also good for health. Monitoring the amount of food we buy and eat is very important, for the worlds recourses are dwindling and we should do everything we can to help the environment stay healthy and clean.

Do you think its best to grow your own food, if so do you think this is sustainable?

Buying healthy and organic food can cost a lot of money for the people in the world that does not have much money. How can we try to make it easier for people that do not have as much to be able to but nice organic food that can help our environment and health?

lolateeters

Yeah, these are problems that are rapidly increasing levels of obesity and multiple diseases in lower-income communities. If we could find a way to decrease the cost of healthy food in order to motivate more people to buy organic products without causing too many long-term effects, then I think this would help our world greatly.

I agree that we should by less and only take what we can eat because that will save the amount of waste we have and if we have too much of some food you just throw it out and that is wasting resources and that could be used for other things. Also at home you can try doing things yourself like having a garden to make your own food.

This is a very good statement because I think in todays world people buy way more food that is needed for them and their family.  If you are going to go to he store and by groceries only buy what is needed for your family.  This is also a great way to reduce peoples carbon footprints.
