What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!
Food & Hunger >
what you eat
being a vegetarian isn't the only way to eat and promote the reducing of global warming. even just making an effort to eat less meat can make the difference.
I can agree with this
i agree because you can be resourceful with what you eat and
still eat meat
I agree as well. I think framing these decisions as "either/or" (e.g., EITHER 100% vegan organic local OR you eat anything you want and never think about ethics or environment) is a recipe for inaction.
In my opinion we need to be realistic, and also encourage people to take positive steps, even small ones.
But meat is good for you
Being vegetarian is expensive so some are not able to be 100% vegetarian.
The processing needed to make the necessary protein that meat supplies would take it's tole on the environment
cassia- it sounds like you are saying that it would take more energy and resources to make enough vegetable based protein to produce the equivalent amount found in meat?
That's not true. In fact it's the opposite: by some estimates, it takes 20 times more resources and energy to make meat protein as it does the equivalent amount of vegetable protein.

This is in part because most of the meat we eat is from herbivorous animals. We have to grow plants to feed the animals - it would be far more efficient to grow the plants for ourselves.
