What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Supermarkets
The amount of food thrown away by supermarkets is ridiculous. Why not give the food to someone who could actually use it?
If I'm not wrong, there are associations that offer food not sold to someone who need it
In some countries, homeless people are allowed to look through the supermarket trash and if they find food they can keep it but in other countries they are not allowed to look through the trash instead of not allowing people to look through the trash of the supermarkets they could just make a special container where they only throw the food in so people can look into the containers and if they find food which is still good to eat they can just take it with them.
Some supermarkets in the world use the food that they want to through away as a food for the animals in the streets like dogs and cats.
I agree with you, the amount of food thrown away each day by supermarkets is insane. They would rather throw it away instead of giving it for free to people. They have to do like this because, if people had always free food, then the supermarkets would stop selling and would loose a big amount of money.
Luckily in my country, Switzerland, there are many non-profit associations collaborating with supermarkets for those in need. Supermarkets make sure that the food that they give away for free is really going to only those who can't afford it, and I think this is a very good thing to do.
If you are interested in more information about this kind of non profit associations, here is a link of one wich I actually collaborated with in middle school: http://www.tischlein.ch/donare-cibo/?L=2 , (the site is only in french, german, or italian).
Yeah Kanye. I see what you’re saying and I completely agree. Wasting food is also a big problem in households as well. I think that this is a problem that needs more attention.
Yes! I saw this post where a restaurant owner gave the option of giving away free food. and some charities give away food that's about to "spoil." I wrote an essay on food waste. I definitely think there is more recognition coming in the future.
I agree with you
@lil_arm @matteoP yes very good points !!!
Alina, I saw that a high school students created a "food shelf" for his high school cafeteria. People put food they didn't want on the shelf an people who needed food could grab it! Reduces wastes, provides food for people who need it that day! Lets start it at ML!
