Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Food Shortage

795 million people in the world are starving. Change starts with one person. So the next time you go to throw away an unfinished apple, take a moment and reflect on your decisions.

I agree, because somebody else may have been willing to eat that apple (if it was not bitten into). So look around your cafeteria to see if there is someone with no lunch. If so, you should ask them if they would like an apple. Don't waste food.

kamikaze_fennel15

Yes, this is a problem that could be solved with a communal food shelf where people put their unwanted food for other people to have instead of wasting it by throwing it away.

I agree, people should keep these things in mind and cut back on buying too much food that will go to waste.

I most certainly agree, I don't get why people do such a thing, I wish they could think twice about throwing away food, as well as doing something else besides throwing it away, like giving it to other people who don't have money or anything really.

I agree, hunger is a huge problem in many parts of the world. I feel that more people should be more mindful of the food that they eat. For instance, if you know you won't be able to finish a certain amount you should get a smaller amount so that you will not waste the food. Or if you do not finish your food you should offer it to someone else so it will not be wasted.

I totally agree the hunger is a big problem in this world that needs to be fixed. I also agree that a change starts with one person. More people should think about what they eat and how much they get, because you don't want to waste food. Lastly, if you don't finish the serving that you put on your plate offer it to someone else that would eat it.

I agree. I change needs to happen with all wasted foods. There are definitely some people in the world who don't eat every day, while we just throw away entire dishes like nothing. It would be great if people gave away instead of throwing away. Even if the food doesn't benefit you, someone else will greatly appreciate it.

I agree, hunger is a huge problem in many parts of the world. We should be more considerate of the food we waste, and think about those who are starving, wishing for that unfinished apple. We should get smaller portions that we could finish, or save the food for someone else.

joshua_t

I agree. And, I the change starts with me then the next time I am about to throw away an unfinished plate I'll think about the people that would've finished it and not throw it away and just eat it.

I totally agree, hunger is a problem especially with poverty. Maybe next time you see a poor man on the street you can help him out by giving him FOOD instead of money because he can be tempted to buy other things like nicotine and  lottery tickets.

bighead_ajay

I agree, change does start with one person and not everyone thinks about that the food that they throw away. Some people throw away plates in resturants of untouched food even though there could be someone outside the restaurant starving.

I absolutely agree. hunger problem is very common and we must deal with it. All these people who without thinking are still throwing away good food have something to do with it. I think that we should be more responsible and think not only about ourselves. And maybe we can deal with this problem. Only together.
