Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

From using the calculator i learned that dietary needs are important. I also learned that many people do tend to waste a lot of food along with eating unnecessary foods. My policy would be to eat nutritional value of food along with trying to cut back on the amount of dairy along with meat that the average person consumes. My policy would also be to donate money to organization each month that will then go to helping people with the need of wold hunger. This would then help with the world hunger strike by providing people with the needs of food that may not be able to afford it.

I think that it is important to make sure that you are eating all of the food that you get and not wasting. It is also important that we help people who cannot get the food that they need to survive, meaning donation. We can try to avoid eating food that does not provide us with a sufficient amount of our necessary proteins such as chips. Although the main reason that insufficient food is consumed is the price, the cheeper foods are always the more unhealthy, and the less nutrient filled. They always raise the prices on foods that they know you need for most every day life such as bread, milk, or eggs. This pattern is also seen with anything good for the environment such as organic because it is more expensive to make.

I agree it's very important to not eat unnecessarily or excessively especially considering the number of people that only eat the bare minimum each day. Eating out of boredom is damaging to the earth and to our own bodies.
