What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Famine: the world's Biggest but solvable problem
Every night, about a billion people in the world go to bed hungry. What is needed to put an end to this situation? to solve the problems of hunger does not require scientific or revolutionary discoveries. The knowledge we have today, plus the political will solve this problem.Eradicating hunger can be seen as the task of providing everyone with the means to purchase a standard amount of food. Therefore, the task of overcoming the food crisis for any state becomes a priority, and its solution by democratic methods inevitably acquires a fateful character, opening the way to national revival.
I completely agree. There is far to much food and money in the world to have so many people going hungry every day. Furthermore, people who have enough food should be mindful about wasting it or buying excess that they don't need. Additionally, we should donate food to those without it whenever we can, and money to organizations that help conquer world hunger. I read an article entitled "Help Reduce World Hunger," and they also discussed steps we could take to reduce hunger. One of the steps that stuck out to me is that we should use our voices and U.S. rights to influence the nation to change government policies and dedicate more money to solving hunger.

I agree. World hunger is a big problem and about 1.3 billion tons ($600,000,000,000) gets wasted globally per year (www.fao.org). Food waste is not only problem in developing countries but in countries like the U.S as well. In the U.S, some food is thrown out based only on appearances dispite the fruit/ vegtable being completely normal and safe to eat. In developing countries, 3 main causes of food waste are harvesting crops to early (due to lack of food and money), minimal farming technology and inadequate market systems. I think that a good solution would be to have food collection agencies offer to take any unwanted food which partner with food banks so that less food is wasted and more people who need food could have access to it. In developing countries, financial support could be given as well as food stamps so that in the end, more food is produced and a profit can be produced form it. These are not the only options however and it would be great if anyone had more ideas, they can share them below.
I agree. World hunger have always been a problem. 1.3 billion tons of food have been wasted every year, if 25% of these food get preserved, 870 million people can be feed. People should order how much they can have in the restaurant, package the left over food. Also develop high productive food is a solution. Such as the hybrid rice and transgenosis food.
I agree but you never addressed HOW we would do this. Citing how many people are hungry is great evidence, but we should focus more on a solution than on how big the problem is. We need to start by seeing where we get food and where it is distributed and then redistribute it so that one place doesn't have a three-course meal every day and another can barely have one. Also, how would we pay for this? It's great when everyone says, 'Raise taxes,' but not all of us have enough money in the first place for food, water, and shelter, so now you want to add a tax on to someone who couldn't afford food even before, and now they are just in a bigger hole. I agree we need to solve this, but it is more complicated than just, "make more food'. Also, having access to food and being able to afford/ obtain it, are two very different things. Thank you for your time
I completely agree that world hunger is a massive problem, but we have to think of a viable solution instead of just saying how big of a problem it is. There are many contributing factors as to why there are all of these people that are starving. So many people are unaware of how much food they waste. If all of that waste were to be preserved, hundreds of millions of people could be fed. People need to realize how big of an issue world hunger is, and donate to certain organizations to help their communities and the rest of the globe. Another way to positively contribute is by volunteering to serve food to the hungry. I have volunteered multiple times at my local church to help feed the homeless. This is a great way to give back to your community and really feel like you are helping to make a difference in the world and others' lives.
I agree but we have to stop saying that world hunger is a huge problem and actually act on it. Think about all the simple things we could do as individuals to improve the world's hunger. Recent studies show that an American citizen wastes about 225-290 pounds of food per year. This means that about 20% of all food put on the plates of American citizens is enough to feed 2 billion people. People don't realize that you don't always have to come up with some world changing idea or innovation, but think about how you can improve the world with what you are doing now in your daily lives.
I can agree with this. World Hunger is such a problem in third world countries and even developed countries. It seems like we have enough food to feed everyone, but it just doesn't happen. To go on with Isaac G, Americans waste so much food that can be recycled or given to people who need it the most. This is such an inexcusable problem.
