Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Effects of Eating Red Meat

WCalhounBOD3

Eating a lot of red meat is not great for our body nonetheless the environment. Eating red meat in moderation is healthy for our body but anytime we eat it we are taking up our planets valuable resources. Eating cows destroy our ecosystem. Cows consume 16 pounds of vegetation to only produce 1 pound of flesh for us to eat. Even Though we have a large population, half of the water we use is to provide liquid to the animals we will eat and the food we need. 2,5500 gallons of water are used to produce just one pound of meat. Think about how much you eat in your home and the effects. In addition, pig factories produce a large amount of waste releasing methane into the atmosphere. We destroy the previous land which used to be large amounts of trees (sinks) to produce oxygen, but now they are taken up by animal factories. Most people suggest going vegan or vegetarian but that isn’t always an option due to a person's circumstances. I suggest moderation with red eat is th e best solution. What do you all think is the best solution? Information from: https://www.peta.org/about-peta/faq/how … vironment/
