What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Vegetarian Meals = Happy Earth
Through making an effort to consume more vegetarian meals, we can limit carbon dioxide emissions and improve our global carbon footprint. People with access to a variety of food tend to take what they eat for granted, however, that is the opposite of what needs to be done. Foods produced and processed through the meat industry currently substantially contribute to global carbon emissions, specifically red meat and beef. Even when meat is unused or decomposing, it is still contributing a large amount of carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. According to the Scientific American, production of meat through the meath industry currently adds approximately 6.5 billion tons of greenhouse gases equivalent to carbon dioxide per year, as well as fact that 32% of greenhouse gas emissions is from cattle and their waste. That is a sizable chunk of greenhouse gas emissions that people are not educated on or are not cognizant of. The larger amount of meat consumed, the more carbon dioxide and green house gas emissions occur, serving as a catalyst to increase global w arming. If people make the commitment to limit their personal meat consumption, specifically beef, or go vegetarian for some portion of the week, we will be consciously limiting our global carbon footprints. https://www.scientificamerican.com/slid … hamburger/
As someone who eats red meat regularly I decided to give it up for lent. This small change in life was not difficult to make or continue to do in a long period of time. Even if you don't give meat up entirely it's important to be conscientious of the effects it has on he earth. On the website Time for Change it states that "a cow release of about 100 kg Methane per year". This is an insane amount due to the harmful effects it has on the earth. https://timeforchange.org/are-cows-caus … ethane-CO2
