Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

How our food consumption influences world hunger

clayton6

I learned that more energy is used to produce the food that I eat than the average consumer and I feel I am also better-off than most people. A societal policy on food that I would create from what I learned is one that would enable us to distribute food equally to populations around the world in both developed and developing countries. This helps alleviate world hunger because if this occurs, there will be less evidence of people going hungry and therefore improve the health of populations worldwide. As everyone will get an even amount of nutrition leaving a decrease in both starvation and obesity. Clayton, 15 North Carolina
