What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Organic Foods and the Correlation to Carbon Footprints
I learned that dietary choices can effect carbon footprints because when consuming foods, it is hard to take into account the carbon energy and CO2 it took to make that product, and how the production of the food that you are eating has affected the environmental well-being of the earth. I think an effective societal policy on food is that they should regulate what percentage of foods that they eat each day are organic, and if that percentage is less than 60%, the person should revise on what foods they buy and what quantity they buy certain foods in.
With an above average carbon footprint mostly contributed by food, I certainly agree. I would also like to add that buying food locally and cutting down on eating meat can hold significant effects on your food carbon footprint. While I eat almost all organic foods, I do not keep track of whether it is grown locally of not. CO2 released in transporting food can easily be overlooked in reviewing your carbon footprint. Furthermore, the diet of a vegetarian versus that fo a meat lover has a carbon footprint in food of about 1/2 less. While you do not have to become a vegetarian, learning to cut down on some meals with meat can be very helpful. Lastly, buying food that is generally healthy usually has a lower carbon footprint since it is not heavily processed.
