Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

How do we limit food consumption?

RHoangBOD4

Today, the world population is 7.7 billion people, and out of 7.7 billion, there'll be people who have less or no food, while other people consumed so much food that the world was forced to produce more. Today, people usually buy a lot of food to eat over the days, but one flaw of leaving food staying "untouched" for a long time can lead to expiration, which later will go to waste. According to a website that I discovered and read through, 795 million people do not have access to enough food in order to survive and thrive. We as the whole world can deal with hunger together. For example, buy enough food to eat in a certain amount of time such as three days, five days, a week, and many other limitations on time you could buy. Today, there are some organizations and leaders that are also solving world hunger in some part of the world. You can contribute to this by making some food donations to those organization. When you donate to those organizations or leaders, yo u have played a role in helping the world from hunger and starvations around the world

I feel as though the problem needing to be addressed here is not reducing food consumption, but distributing food to all people as well as reducing foods such as meat and dairy being consumed because raising animals takes a larger tole on carbon impact than plants. Distribution of food connects more to issues of poverty and access in many places around the world. Reduction of meat consumption and manufacturing, however, is much more of an issue involving the health of our planet.

We have the ability to easily reduce and limit food consumption. W constantly purchase items that we don't necessarily need or end up using which is bad for the environment. To limit food consumption all we have to do is buy and eat only the items that we really need. This will also help limit your carbon footprint.

I agree with limiting food consumptions. Most times we take for granted the food we have and end up wasting it. just about 795 million petrol do not have enough food to eat.  For more information click this link https://www.minnpost.com/foreign-concep … good-news/. I think we should more self-conscious about these major topics.

I think that in order to limit food consumption, we need to make good quality food accessible. The main food contributors to global warming are the cheap chip brands such as frito-lay. The issue with this though is that a majority of low income and impoverished people can only afford these things, thus leading to not only poor health for them, but contributions to global warming, and eating more food. 4/13/19

This is definitely a huge problem and one aspect of this is the amount of food restaurants waste. It is reported that in a year 63 million tons of food are wasted by restaurants.  This food could be used by these people you mentioned for their required nutrients. I know that it is hard to predict what people will eat on a given day, but something needs to change. There are people starving in the world that could be provided food if this wasting changed. Restaurants could implement pre-day ordering or some other system that prevents this waste.
