Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Eating Better

When I did the footprint calculator, I noticed that even though I don't eat a lot of meat, the amount of meat that I eat could be lower. For instance, I never eat beef, but I do eat a lot of pork. If I didn't eat as much pork, that would bring down my footprint a lot. Maybe one thing I could do is try to eat the vegetarian meal at school. That is where I usually eat a lot of the meat that I eat. I also apparently eat a lot of eggs, so that might be one other thing that I could try to lower. I could try to not eat meat for at least 4 days a week, that would definitely lower my carbon impact.

I agree with you, we can eat more vegetarian food. We can reduce our carbon impact with simple things. Eating more eggs, vegetables, fruit, legumes make a difference. We don't need to become all vegetarians but we should reduce the meat in our diet. It's better for our health and for the Planet.

I agree with the fact that we should eat less meat, and more vegetarian food. I can relate to how I rarely eat beef, but I eat lots of pork and chicken, which made my footprint calculator higher than expected. I would expect myself to start eating meat less than 5 days a week, that way I can be as healthy as can be.

I agree because I also eat a lot of meat and that also rises my average. Eating more healthy can really affect the carbon footprint of many and raise the quality of life. But eating vegetables is a habit that has been a little hard for me to get into.  But definitely  eating less meat would affect the planet greatly.

I agree with all the comments above, we can all eat a lot healthy and eat less meat. Eating more healthy can make the human body better and last longer and I didn't realize the affect it did on the carbon footprint. I don't eat much meat but when I think it's better if people reduce the meat they eat. It would also help the plant a lot too.
