Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Stop wasting food

In order to reduce food waste, as the younger generation we need to understand the rules of recycling, composting, and planning what we buy. Make a meal plan, don’t over-serve, don’t use as many dispensable plates and utensils, rely on reusable containers, and eat left overs.

I totally agree with you Lily. Everyone needs to pay more attention to recycling, composting, and planning food. Hunger is a serious issue and the amount of people living with it needs to reduce and hopefully soon end. Doing everything you said can also lower the carbon footprint you are leaving behind. In conclusion I agree with you 100% and I also think people should help others that aren’t as fortunate.

I agree we need to stop wasting food. If you have extra foods you should not just throw it away you can do a lot of stuff with it. For example, you can compost, composting helps the atmosphere a lot if your not composting the food is burned into the atmosphere if you are it goes into the soil and makes it stronger. You can also keep your leftovers for the next day or feed your pets a little of it.

I agree that wasting food is a bad habit that we do on a daily basis. I think that instead of throwing away foods, you can always save it for later. I also agree with what Lily said when she mentioned the rules of recycling and composting. If we work on our habit of not wasting food, recycling, and composting, our world would be a much better place.

I totally agree with you. In a year almost 1/3 of all food produced in the world is wasted. This is about 1.3 billion tons. I think that educating kids about not over serving and composting will help this. If people don't over serve then there will be less food that is thrown away and wasted.

I think it would benefit us if our generation voluteered more at recycling facilities, this would help us to learn more about the process of recycling at the same time.
