What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

The amount of wasted food in the world and how to stop wasting
In a full year, almost 1/3 of all food produced is wasted and thrown away. This translates to about 1.3 billion tons of food. This needs to stop. A way that we can stop this is by stopping over- serving. Over serving is one of the biggest causes of wasted food. People serve too much food and don't eat all of it. This means that most of that wasted food will end up going into the trash.
We can also educate young kids about saving food and not throwing it away. I am guilty of some of this. Sometimes I over serve and throw it away but most of the time I try to save the extra food.
Absolutely, it is so sad to know how unappreciative many people are when it comes to the food that fills their plates.
I am really shocked by the amount of food being thrown away because it is a really large amount. I definitely agree that throwing away food needs to stop, as it is really wasteful. I did not know that over-serving was a big cause for wasted food. It is really depressing that uneaten food ends up in the garbage disposal. I think that teaching young kids to save food may help the environment so that those kids may grow up to teach other kids.
