Many students using our footprint calculator said that they could not pledge to reduce their home footprints because they were not making the decisions for the household. Here is your chance to design your own sustainable virtual household!
If you had your own home, what would you do to make it more energy efficient? Where would you get your electricity from? Where would your house be? Would you live near to your school or work or local transit options? Where would you get your food from?

Family Footprint
If you have a big family you should really watch what you're doing. You have a lot more to worry about with so many people doing the same things. Like turn off lights in rooms when you're not using that room or when you're brushing your teeth don't leave the water on, take short showers. Don't waste so much stuff. You could really make a difference in the world just by not wasting so much stuff. Make the world a better place.
Hi, I am from Belarus . I imagine my house as a two-stored building . I think, that the best location of our house is near work or school . So ,we will not use buses and cars . This air pollution carries significant risks for human health and the environment. Transportation is the largest single source of air pollution . We can significantly reduce air pollution from our cars and trucks , if we become use more our bikes or go on foot . If we talk about the house , i can say that we use a lot of electricity. This problem can be solved too . We can reduce the use of our phones, computers and TVs.
We need to try to save light and water. Unfortunately my family's carbon footprint for transportation is very big, because I go to school in another district and the work of my parents is far away. We use a lot of water, electricity and internet , but we will find a solution to this problm . And what can your family do to reduce your carbon footprint ? ?
Hi, I agree with your post about your changes you would make to your house to make it more environmentally friendly. I think it is a smart idea to not use buses or cars, but that may be hard because it is hard to transport far with bikes and by walking. Also, I agree how you said that we could reduce the use of our phones. A way to do that is by unplugging chargers, TVs, etc. My family could take shorter showers to reduce our carbon footprint, and not always keep our devices plugged in.
My family is not very good about conserving energy and light. In the morning when I leave for school I always forget to turn off the lights in my room. However within the last week and a half after seeing my large carbon foot print, I have begun to remember to turn off all of my lights, also I open my windows during the day to use day light instead. Learning about where my carbon foot print stands helps me help the environment.
The same thing goes for my family. We always try to turn off the lights and un plug our electronics when we aren't using them but a lot of times we forget about them. A lot of the energy is used when we leave the chargers plugged in when we go to school or work and that consists of a lot of the energy that is being used throughout the day. I agree that learning about the carbon footprint helps inform us about how we can conserve energy and reduCe carbon. If everyone including my family all try to reduce energy then the carbon footprint across the world would be very different. If everyone was cautious about how they used their energy then my families and many families carbon footprints would be low.
So when we talk about family footprint we are talking about your whole family. This means not only your self but your whole family. We need to cut back on our carbon footprint to make this world a better place. When we talk about this, the main reason we have a high family footprint is because we travel a lot here in the US. If we can cut back on maybe some lets say grocery store runs, and go to our local store if you live in a small town instead of going to like HyVee, we would cut back. I mean if you live in a small town, you can ride a bike to the store. Plus it cuts back purchases because you can't carry all the groceries that you put in the back of your car. So please talk to your family and talk to them about reducing your family footprint! Thanks!!
So when my mom goes to the grocery store always get mad because my mom always has to buy the most expensive produce and it makes me mad because its not what we need. All we need is food, not food like snacks and other expensive food. I am saying this because most of the people in a store get what they want, not need. People really need to cut back on a lot of stuff and get the stuff that they need. Carbon Footprint I think is a good way to measure your life and what you use in and out of your house. Reply back if you agree!
I think my family uses too much energy. We use the heat to much and we take long showers. We are below average on energy use in our area but I still think that we use a lot of energy. Reply back if you think your family uses too much energy.
Ask your mom to buy renewable bags, and maybe start using coupons. Its really cool how you smart you are about noticing the difference between want and need.
I do agree with you, a lot of people buy unnecessary things for enjoyment.
I also agree with you because today in our society people buy things that they don't need or they buy it and never use it and it was just a waste of money and time.
When I was calculating my family's footprint I noticed how much we wasted by leaving lights on. By switching to LED or just simply turning them off when not in use we could cut down our CO2 emissions by a lot. And for power to be clean one could use solar power to power their house. For transit to be clean one could use the bus more and purchase and electric car to combat global warming. Also to be clean one could get their food from local food options to reduce carbon footprint.
