MY Family Footprint

Many students using our footprint calculator said that they could not pledge to reduce their home footprints because they were not making the decisions for the household. Here is your chance to design your own sustainable virtual household!

If you had your own home, what would you do to make it more energy efficient? Where would you get your electricity from? Where would your house be? Would you live near to your school or work or local transit options? Where would you get your food from?

My Family Footprint (FL, USA)

Despite my predictions that my family's footprint was larger than the average for Floridians, I was surprised to see that mine was over three-thousand pounds of CO2 squared (I pre-emptively apologize to anybody who does not understand Imperial units) lower than the average (twenty-eight thousand, nine-hundred, and thirteen). "Home" took up most of the emissions. I wonder if this is just my home or if this is a common thing among other people in either America or the world?

dear blefan, one way you can find this out is to go back to your calculations on the calculator (if you registered and saved your footprint values) ad pretend that you were a resident of another state or country.  Once you change your location (for pretend - don't resave your data like that or it will over-write your real numbers) you can see how much location matters - with no change in lifestyle.

you can also play around with your answers to see what part makes the most difference to your calculations.  Make sure to use the "CO2" button in the upper left corner of the calculator to see your footprint for each question.
