MY Family Footprint

Many students using our footprint calculator said that they could not pledge to reduce their home footprints because they were not making the decisions for the household. Here is your chance to design your own sustainable virtual household!

If you had your own home, what would you do to make it more energy efficient? Where would you get your electricity from? Where would your house be? Would you live near to your school or work or local transit options? Where would you get your food from?

How my ideal home can help mother earth

If I were to be in charge of my own home, I would first try and make sure the location is somewhere convenient for my family and I. In order to do so, I would hope that the school is walking distance for my children and that work was close enough for me to take local transit options. In terms of electricity around the house, a solar panel can be installed to generate electricity and to heat hot water thus lowering my fossil fuel usage. Also, if I had a furnace, I would replace the filter often to be sure a dirty one does not make the furnace work harder. In addition, I find that air conditioning is unnecessary for a replacement could be ceiling fans allowing cool air throughout various rooms.
