Many students using our footprint calculator said that they could not pledge to reduce their home footprints because they were not making the decisions for the household. Here is your chance to design your own sustainable virtual household!
If you had your own home, what would you do to make it more energy efficient? Where would you get your electricity from? Where would your house be? Would you live near to your school or work or local transit options? Where would you get your food from?

Are Electric Cars Better for the Environment?
Everybody knows that driving an electric is so great for the environment. However, I'm not convinced. Most of the electricity in those cars come from coal and natural gas, just like cars run on gasoline. Sure some of that energy is from a hydroelectric plant, or some other renewable source, but I'd say most of it is not clean energy.
My family's carbon footprint is pretty high, even for California. We were high up in all four categories except purchases. Obvious ways to lower it would be installing solar panels, eating vegan, and buying an electric car. We are planning to install solar panels, and to eat more vegetables, but I'm not sure about electric cars. Is driving a Tesla really better than the normal Honda Accord? I would not be so sure.
