MY Family Footprint

Many students using our footprint calculator said that they could not pledge to reduce their home footprints because they were not making the decisions for the household. Here is your chance to design your own sustainable virtual household!

If you had your own home, what would you do to make it more energy efficient? Where would you get your electricity from? Where would your house be? Would you live near to your school or work or local transit options? Where would you get your food from?

A More Eco-Friendly Home

My family's carbon footprint is quite high and I would like to change that. One thing that I noticed that I could easily change to reduce my carbon footprint from my family is that we only use incandescent light bulbs in our house. If we changed our light bulbs to all LED we could cut off about 4000lbs of carbon dioxide emission each year! Another thing that my family and I can do is to turn up the air conditioning to about seventy five degrees. Lower air conditioning is a desire in the hot Houston weather we have, but it would be more beneficial to use a fan. A fan uses less electricity and it also costs less. If you have any other tips on how to reduce my family's carbon footprint please let me know!
