MY Family Footprint

Many students using our footprint calculator said that they could not pledge to reduce their home footprints because they were not making the decisions for the household. Here is your chance to design your own sustainable virtual household!

If you had your own home, what would you do to make it more energy efficient? Where would you get your electricity from? Where would your house be? Would you live near to your school or work or local transit options? Where would you get your food from?

An Eco-Friendly Home

My total carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere for my home was well above the average at 11588kg.  An ideal, more eco-friendly home would release much less carbon dioxide.  It would have all LED lights instead of fluorescent lights which require more energy.  Instead of an air conditioner, it would use electric fans to cool.  The inhabitants of the house would turn off all of the lights when not using the room, and they would use technology sparingly.  The house would have a home garden in the backyard with vegetables and berries.  The family would reuse anything they could and recycle everything they could not reuse.  They would own an electric car to help cut back on carbon dioxide released by automobiles.  This home would have less of a carbon footprint than the one I live in now as well as being significantly lower than the average.

That is good to do. Although your carbon footprint is above average, you seem to know what to do in order to lower it.

This is very interesting to know. You obviously know how to reduce carbon footprint very well. It would be awesome if we could all live in a home as your “Eco-Friendly Home” is put together!
