Many students using our footprint calculator said that they could not pledge to reduce their home footprints because they were not making the decisions for the household. Here is your chance to design your own sustainable virtual household!
If you had your own home, what would you do to make it more energy efficient? Where would you get your electricity from? Where would your house be? Would you live near to your school or work or local transit options? Where would you get your food from?

Ideas to reduce my family's footprint
My family and I have started to be more conscious of our carbon footprint. We started to turn the lights off when we leave a room, we, as a family, have decided to take shorter showers, my mom cuts down on the loads of laundry she does each week, and doesn't run the water constantly when she washes the dishes. A big decision that my family made to be more green was purchasing an electric car to reduce pollution. For example, according to http://www.lightsonsolar.com/emissions- … ine-cars/, burning one gallon of gasoline generates nearly 20 pounds of CO2. Also, gas cars emit 157 pounds of CO2 per million BTUs of energy consumed, electric cars emit about 76 pounds of CO2 per million BTUs of energy consumed. Using an electric car instead of a car that uses gasoline can reduce your carbon footprint tremendously.
