Many students using our footprint calculator said that they could not pledge to reduce their home footprints because they were not making the decisions for the household. Here is your chance to design your own sustainable virtual household!
If you had your own home, what would you do to make it more energy efficient? Where would you get your electricity from? Where would your house be? Would you live near to your school or work or local transit options? Where would you get your food from?
MY Family Footprint >
Reducing My Family's Footprint
I feel like my whole family (other than me and my dad) take super long, hot showers. This really adds up to our total carbon footprint. If everyone in my family could take a shorter, maybe lukewarm shower, we could reduce our footprint by a lot. Another thing we do is eat a lot of meat. Instead of eating steak often, we could go for something like a salad or other meals not containing meat. My family takes a LOT of roadtrips. We could potentially cut these trips down slightly to maybe a trip closer to home or cut down the amount of trips in all. Although my family is far below the average for the USA, we can still reduce our carbon footprint by a lot. We are all willing to do these things for the greater good of saving our earth. What can your family do to reduce your carbon footprint? Will all of you be willing to change to do this?
I agree with you.
I already do the things that you have said, for example I don`t do hot showers and I am not much time under the shower.
Unfortunately also I eat much meat and of this I am not very proud. In fact I eat it about 4 times per week.
A beautiful thing that do my mother is to buy local foods when she has the possibility, for example if they didn`t cost very much.
I encourage people to use more and more public modes of transportation to reduce pollution. Also, try to make use of car pooling. If your family and your friends or your neighbors come from the same locality and have same timings you can explore this option to save energy and money.
I apologize to you for the errors in the text and I kindly ask you to correct my writing, so that I learn from one`s mistakes
I agree with both of your points! Unlike your statement, I am one of those people that that takes really long, hot showers. However, I am making a change and taking shorter and lukewarm showers from now on. I agree that in doing this, I can significantly reduce my carbon footprint by a lot. Sadly, my family and I are also guilty of eating a lot of meat! We usually include meat in our meals 6 out of the 7 days a week! Like Manzoni's, my mother also strives to buy local, organic foods from Whole Foods Market when she can. I have talked to my family about reducing our carbon footprint and they think that they are willing to accept the challenge to achieve the greater good of our earth.
I agree with you point! Take long hot shower really make high carbon footprint. And it will waste a lot of water. I don't know is take lukewarm shower will work or not, but take shorter shower will be a good way to make carbon print down also save water.
And I agree with "go for something like a salad or other meals not containing meat." This a good way to make our eat less meat, and it also can keep our healthy. My family also love to eat meat, I think I found the way to change the status quo now. ^^
My families carbon footprint for my house is really small. It is the smallest of all of the categories on the carbon footprint tracker. My problem lies in transportation. I have decided to buy a more fuel efficient car when I am an adult. To help your home footprint you could recycle more and try to reuse.
I read your answers with delight..
So have I decided to buy a more fuel efficient car when I am an adult, for example a hybrid car, obviously if I will have the money !
I agree with you. I think it is a good idea I would like reduce my family footprint, and reduce the unnecessary spend water. In Guatemala all the people use more than necessary water.. I will be willing to change to do this.
I agree with your comment . This is one of the many things that Guatemala need . I hope to implement it
I'm the only ecologist in my family. My father drives a lot for work, my aunt takes her car every day when she has to go to work even when she has a bus stop in front of her home. I'm trying to change them but it's not easy for a student, but we need to try and try because we can do a lot all together.
