MY Family Footprint

Many students using our footprint calculator said that they could not pledge to reduce their home footprints because they were not making the decisions for the household. Here is your chance to design your own sustainable virtual household!

If you had your own home, what would you do to make it more energy efficient? Where would you get your electricity from? Where would your house be? Would you live near to your school or work or local transit options? Where would you get your food from?

Reducing the Family Footprint

A few years ago, my family started renting solar panels.  Although it can be very expensive to buy solar panels, renting them allows us to pay less for their usage, and get the full benefit of using them for electrical power.  Not only has our electricity bill each month been lower and lower, but we are also being sustainable with our energy source.  The solar panels have made a difference because when I was taking my carbon footprint calculation, my footprint was very low for energy usage because of our solar panels.  I would highly suggest using them because they are very financially and environmentally sustainable.

That's really neat! My mom has been bugging our family to get solar panels but they are very expensive and they seem very permanent so we never actually did anything. That sounds like a good solution. Thanks for the inspiration.
