MY Family Footprint

Many students using our footprint calculator said that they could not pledge to reduce their home footprints because they were not making the decisions for the household. Here is your chance to design your own sustainable virtual household!

If you had your own home, what would you do to make it more energy efficient? Where would you get your electricity from? Where would your house be? Would you live near to your school or work or local transit options? Where would you get your food from?

Future Family Footprint Hopes

I take BART from Livermore so my transportation footprint is pretty high in comparison to the average person. Recently, I have been unplugging my devices when fully charged and making sure to turn off the lights in the rooms when no one is there or when I'm done. In the future, I hope to spend more time in my family's garden and eat more organic and locally produced food.

I have the same problem, I live in in Alameda and although its not that far away I have to take the BART shuttle, BART, and a bus to get home and I still have to walk, even though it may seem slightly unnecessary I also travel by plane often to visit family across the globe (Australia, UK, UAE, Canada and etc.) which results in a stupendously high travel footprint.

I always used to forget to unplug my devices, and although it does not save energy
(A common misconception) it does help save money, and decrease your own carbon footprint. Hopefully, (and it's a very big if but) if everyone were to cut down on energy usage then perhaps less power would need to be sent out into the grid and the Greenhouse Effect could be slightly slowed.

Sorry for the rant, hope this was educational and not to boring also, notice the ifs, buts, perhapses, and slightly.
