Many students using our footprint calculator said that they could not pledge to reduce their home footprints because they were not making the decisions for the household. Here is your chance to design your own sustainable virtual household!
If you had your own home, what would you do to make it more energy efficient? Where would you get your electricity from? Where would your house be? Would you live near to your school or work or local transit options? Where would you get your food from?

How we use our air conditioning and heating
My family and I try to use our air and heat as little as possible. In the late spring until early fall, unless it is very hot outside, we like to keep our windows open. In the winter we try to keep our heat around 72F. When we do have to use our heat, we try to run it intermittently so that we do not use too much electricity. Does anyone else try to do this with their heating and air?
My family does the same thing. We only use heating when it is really cold outside, and we turn it off when we are warmed up, so we don't use too much electricity. And for cooling down, we mostly just open windows and use fans, using our actual air conditioning as little as possible.
In the winter we do not try to use as much heat. We bundle up with sweatshirts. If we do use heat we turn it up for a little bit and then turn it off. Our family is trying to install solar panels so we can use electricity
