Many students using our footprint calculator said that they could not pledge to reduce their home footprints because they were not making the decisions for the household. Here is your chance to design your own sustainable virtual household!
If you had your own home, what would you do to make it more energy efficient? Where would you get your electricity from? Where would your house be? Would you live near to your school or work or local transit options? Where would you get your food from?

Reducing my Family Footprint
Being an honest person, my family emits lots of pollution and wasted energy daily. We leave the porch light on when we leave the house, along with other lights sometimes. My father commutes to San Francisco from the East Bay 5 times per week. My mother commutes to Hayward from San Leandro six times per week. On weekends, my dad takes me to golf tournaments many hours away while my brother and mom shop from large corporations on the weekends. Lastly, our biggest problem is we take 10-15 minute showers: each of us. Ways that we can reduce our carbon footprint is by remembering and making a habit of turning off all our lights when leaving the house. Also, we are starting to make strict 5 minute shower rules. Lastly, we have begun to buy from local food markets and our neighbor's large garden, as well as taking public transportation for my parents' commute to work. These simple life changes have decreased the amount of energy used by my family, benefiting our lives and the environment around us.
