Many students using our footprint calculator said that they could not pledge to reduce their home footprints because they were not making the decisions for the household. Here is your chance to design your own sustainable virtual household!
If you had your own home, what would you do to make it more energy efficient? Where would you get your electricity from? Where would your house be? Would you live near to your school or work or local transit options? Where would you get your food from?

Edits to My Household's Sustainability
I live in a household of three, so generally my family does not use as many resources when compared to a family of five or even six. Even though there are not many members in my family, we still waste a lot of resources that raise our own personal carbon footprint. First of all, we leave all of the chargers, lamps, and other electrical devices plugged into the wall when we are not home; this leads to a waste of electricity. Also, even though there is a drought, I am sure that our shower length could easily be trimmed down, and we could even turn off the water while we "soap up" to continue to save water. In order to save more electricity, my family could set up solar panels to gain energy from the sun. This is very expensive, yet it is an investment that could pay off in the long run. I think that a family meeting and some positive thinking could truly trim down any family's carbon footprint.
great ideas Tyler- Are you going to propose having such a "family meeting" with your other 2 family members? If so, please make sure to let us know how it goes!
Hello Jason. Thank you for responding. I spoke with my parents about promoting sustainability and they seemed to be avid fans. We are now going to check in once in a while to see how our fight for sustainability is going. We spoke about taking shorter showers and riding our bike more.
fantastic!
