Many students using our footprint calculator said that they could not pledge to reduce their home footprints because they were not making the decisions for the household. Here is your chance to design your own sustainable virtual household!
If you had your own home, what would you do to make it more energy efficient? Where would you get your electricity from? Where would your house be? Would you live near to your school or work or local transit options? Where would you get your food from?

My family carbon footprint
My carbon footprint for Home Energy etc. is 1,546. I feel like me and my family can reduce wasting electricity by turning off the lights when we don’t need them. Turning off four 20 watt bulbs that would have run for nine hours saves 720 watt hours of energy. I also think that we use our air conditioner and heater a lot. I think that maybe we could just use blankets whenever you’re cold instead of using the heater. For the air conditioner I’m guessing that maybe we could just open the windows or doors to let the cool air inside. For water I don’t think we waste a lot water but just to be sure we can just turn off the water when we are not using it anymore and not take long showers. Just by cutting your shower down to four minutes, you're saving sixteen gallons of water per shower, or 5,840 gallons per year.
